Response from Cheshire East Council

I have also emailed Julian Cobley at Cheshire East Council, and have received the following:

Dear Mr Collins,

Thank you for your email. I am the lead officer for the Superfast Broadband Project and can update you on progress.

I am sorry to hear your home is connected to a cabinet which has not been upgraded as part of the BT Openreachcommercial rollout, we estimate a further 108,000 premises across Cheshire are in a similar position. To address this issue Cheshire East Council alongside other local authorities in Cheshire have formed the Connecting Cheshire Partnership. As a collective we are seeking to use government and European funding to gap fund further superfast broadband rollout with a commercial telecommunications company.

In December we begin the procurement process to select an investment and delivery partner to undertake the rollout. We expect to award contract in the spring next year and to have the project completed by summer 2015.  At this stage it is not possible be specific about which homes will be in scope of the project as this will be part of the procurement process. Our objective is to reach more than 90% of homes and business with a superfast broadband service and to ensure all remaining homes have a 2Mbs connection.

I hope to be able to share more information with in due course. Please keep an eye on our websitewww.connectingcheshire.org.uk where we will make further information available.

And in response to my reply:

Any support you can offer in raising awareness with your neighbours is greatly appreciated. By registering their demand we have an evidence trail of demand to discuss with BT.
