Work started

Just got home, and there are some major earthworks going on over the road. I’ll get some pics at the weekend.

I’ve just checked, and it looks like work is scheduled to start on Cabinet 8 (Fields Road and surrounding postcodes) end of January into February. Keep an eye open for planned work on cabinet 25 (Edwards way area).

You’ll need to zoom into alsager, and then select the timeframe to be next 12 months.

Briefing event

I must be mad. I went along. Didn’t learn much new, but I did get a nice explanation of how the technology interconnects. See below for pictures of the display versions of  an FTTC cabinet, a standard telephony cabinet and a “Fibre aggregation node” Sorry for the quality – phone photos.

I also learned that the schedule for the purple areas of Alsager on the map is for them to be ready to accept orders from around August 2014.

Email from 10th January – Briefing events.

I am pleased to invite you and your community to attend one of our Connecting Cheshire drop-in briefing events on:

21 January at Tarporley Community Centre, anytime between 4 – 8pm

High Street, Tarporley, CW6 0AY

22 January 2014 at Alderley Edge Festival Hall, anytime between 4 – 8pm

Talbot Road, Alderley Edge SK9 7HR

We would like to use these events to ensure your community is aware of the arrival of fibre broadband during 2014 and show how they can benefit from switching to high speed broadband for home or business use. We will have experts from BT Openreach and their fibre showcase vehicle on hand to explain the technical and engineering challenges, plus there will be information and maps so that you can see where and when the new services will be arriving.

We would be grateful if you could print off the most relevant attached poster and display across your community to ensure good coverage, however if you require any printed copies we would be pleased to send these out to you. We will also be liaising with the local media to spread the message about this event.

BDUK Availability Map Online

The Connecting Cheshire website now has an availability map for the whole of Cheshire. Direct Link:

As far as I can tell from that, Fields Road, and surrounding areas are due to be upgraded “from summer on”. Remaining parts of Edwards Way estate  (Cabinet 25) are still blue meaning “under evaluation”. I’m hoping that means the survey was still outstanding at the time of map creation, and that this is just a formality.

Moving On

Since I started this site – and before publicising it, things moved on. Basically Alsager is now included in the Cheshire east BD UK project, and further petitions are not going to change anything. See below for further information.
