Response from Cheshire East Council

I have also emailed Julian Cobley at Cheshire East Council, and have received the following:

Dear Mr Collins,

Thank you for your email. I am the lead officer for the Superfast Broadband Project and can update you on progress.

I am sorry to hear your home is connected to a cabinet which has not been upgraded as part of the BT Openreachcommercial rollout, we estimate a further 108,000 premises across Cheshire are in a similar position. To address this issue Cheshire East Council alongside other local authorities in Cheshire have formed the Connecting Cheshire Partnership. As a collective we are seeking to use government and European funding to gap fund further superfast broadband rollout with a commercial telecommunications company.

In December we begin the procurement process to select an investment and delivery partner to undertake the rollout. We expect to award contract in the spring next year and to have the project completed by summer 2015.  At this stage it is not possible be specific about which homes will be in scope of the project as this will be part of the procurement process. Our objective is to reach more than 90% of homes and business with a superfast broadband service and to ensure all remaining homes have a 2Mbs connection.

I hope to be able to share more information with in due course. Please keep an eye on our websitewww.connectingcheshire.org.uk where we will make further information available.

And in response to my reply:

Any support you can offer in raising awareness with your neighbours is greatly appreciated. By registering their demand we have an evidence trail of demand to discuss with BT.

Response from BT Openreach

I have emailed BT Openreach about Cabinet 8, and received the following reply:

Dear Mr Collins,

Thank you for your communication about the availability of Fibre Broadband at CAB 8, I am sorry to inform you that the upgrade of the CAB at this time falls outside of our current upgrade footprint.

Therefore, at this time, we cannot give any assurance that your cabinet will be upgraded.

As I’m sure you are aware, we are deploying one of the fastest and largest commercial deployments in the world. Our commercial deployment will have extended to 66% of the UK by the end of December 2014. We aim to extend this to 90% of the UK, in partnership with other sources of funding, e.g. local and National government. As your cabinet is not in the current footprint and in conjunction with other areas within the UK where cabinets are not commercially viable, Government funding is available to county councils and if you can, it is worth registering your interest with your local Council .

You may also wish to lobby your local councillor and MP on progress in your local area. You can also register your interest on the Openreach website at; www.openreach.co.uk which is also the best place to get information on our deployment. I am sorry to bring you this news and I appreciate it is frustrating but we are deploying Fibre Broadband using a commercial model and are currently not able to provide service to your cabinet on that basis at this time.

Updates

As I get new information, it will be added as a post on this page.
